This page is specifically geared towards children and their families. The goal of these specialized services is to set the family up for success and to make interactions between children and their parents positive.
Therapeutic access between parents and children builds upon the principals of supervised access. The focus is on assisting parents in recognizing risk factors with their children and learning to respond to their emotional needs in more adaptive ways in order to facilitate the reduction of risk factors. In most cases, children have not seen there parents for lengthy periods of time. Often, the reintegration begins slowly and the parenting time increases with the rebuilding of the relationship.
One important similarity to supervised access is that the safety of the participants is key. The access may take place in any environment that is deemed appropriate and safe according to the scenario. The advantage of therapeutic access is the presence of resource rich social worker able to help parents learn skills in access with their children rather than a silent participant or a family member.
This is completed on a case by case basis so that the specific needs of the referred family situation can be met. I aim to educate with regard to issues that arise in relation to co-parenting following separation or divorce . Referrals can come from anywhere. Referrals from other assessors are encouraged and well received.
Counselling is also available to teach parents how to put the needs of the child first, how to improve their communication, and how to let go of the past and rework their relationship to that of "co-parents".
